Saudi Arabia’s upcoming King Salman International Airport in Riyadh is taking a major step toward sustainability by using B100 biodiesel during its construction phase. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the project’s developer and Biofuel Co. Ltd., the Kingdom’s first and only producer of compliant biofuel. This initiative supports Saudi Arabia’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 under the Saudi Green Initiative and demonstrates how clean energy solutions are being integrated into large-scale infrastructure projects.
According to project leaders, the use of biodiesel not only reduces carbon emissions but also sets a new standard for environmentally conscious development. Biofuel Co. CEO Abdullah Al-Otaibi emphasized the importance of leadership support in driving sustainable innovation aligned with Vision 2030. Marco Mejia, acting CEO of King Salman International Airport Development Co., noted that the collaboration underscores the airport’s goal to adopt global best practices in green construction and alternative energy use.
