Saudi Arabia’s ambitious aviation vision is taking flight with major progress at King Salman International Airport (KSIA) in Riyadh—poised to become the world’s largest airport once completed. The King Salman International Airport Development Company (KSIADC) has announced a tender deadline of 9 July 2025 for the development of Terminal 6 and the Iconic Terminal, under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) approach. This move marks a critical step forward in delivering the first phase of this massive infrastructure project.
The airport, backed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s $100 billion aviation investment strategy and its broader vision to transform Riyadh into a major global air transport hub. In May, Bechtel Corporation, a leading U.S. engineering and construction firm, was appointed as the official delivery partner for the new terminal projects. Their scope includes Terminal 6, the new terminal for commercial carriers, a private aviation terminal, and various support facilities.
Set to cover an estimated 57 square kilometers, KSIA will feature six parallel runways, an expansive Iconic Terminal, cargo facilities, landside transport infrastructure, and mixed-use real estate. By 2030, the airport aims to handle 120 million passengers annually, expanding to 185 million by 2050. Cargo capacity is projected to reach 3.5 million tonnes per year, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s goal of becoming a global logistics powerhouse.
As Saudi Arabia continues to accelerate its aviation transformation, the King Salman International Airport stands as a flagship development—shaping the future of global air travel and unlocking vast opportunities for international airport suppliers, service providers, and technology innovators.
