On April 24, 2025, Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), chaired the 16th meeting of the Steering Committee for Activating the National Strategy for the Aviation Sector in Jeddah. He highlighted the sector’s continued success, noting that Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation recorded 34.9 million travelers in Q1 2025—a growth of 8.4% compared to the same period in 2024. During Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr alone, over 6.8 million domestic and international passengers were served, reflecting strong coordination between public and private stakeholders.

The meeting also reviewed significant milestones, including four major Saudi airports earning top rankings in the Skytrax 2025 classification and 22 airports achieving carbon accreditation—placing the Kingdom first in the Middle East and second in Asia for certified airports. Additional achievements included Saudia Group leading global airlines in punctuality for March, the launch of e-gate services at King Abdulaziz International Airport, and the introduction of the “Ajwaa” digital platform to support the sector’s digital transformation. Furthermore, GACA granted Swiss International Airlines a license to provide ground handling services at several key airports, supporting the Kingdom’s broader aviation expansion strategy.
