The Syrian government has signed a landmark $4 billion Memorandum of Understanding with a Qatari-Turkish-US consortium, led by Qatar’s UCC Holding, to redevelop Damascus International Airport.

The five-phase Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) project will:

  • Expand capacity to 6 million passengers in the first year
  • Increase capacity to 16 million passengers in later phases
  • Reach 31 million passengers annually at full completion

The upgraded facility will include up to 32 modern boarding gates, integrated air navigation systems, a world-class duty-free area, and improved access via a redeveloped 50-kilometre road.

As part of the agreement, $250 million will also be invested in 10 Airbus A320 aircraft for Syrian Airlines to revitalise the national carrier.

The deal forms part of $14 billion worth of new investments recently announced by the Syrian government, spanning infrastructure, transportation, real estate, and energy—marking a significant step in the country’s economic and aviation sector revival.
