The Saudi Air Navigation Services Company (SANS) reported remarkable growth in the Kingdom’s air traffic for 2024, reflecting its dedication to advancing air navigation safety and efficiency. SANS upgraded its safety management system, maintaining a Level C rating as per the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) standards. Additionally, the company achieved 95% of Level D compliance, showcasing its commitment to the highest international safety protocols. Notably, no major or serious incidents related to air navigation safety were reported within Saudi airspace throughout the year.
Further reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s prominence in civil aviation, SANS was unanimously selected to host CANSO’s regional office in Riyadh during a recent meeting. The Kingdom’s airspace experienced a record-breaking 953,000 air movements in 2024, a 14% increase compared to the previous year. Significant milestones included April 14, the busiest day in Saudi aviation history with 3,137 flights, and October 26, when transit flights reached a record high of 1,215. These achievements underscore the Kingdom’s strategic importance as a global aviation hub.
Detailed statistics reveal impressive growth across all sectors of air traffic. Domestic flights recorded 261,000 air movements, reflecting a 14% rise, while transit flights reached 255,000, showing a 22% increase. International flights totalled 453,000, up by 10% from 2023. These figures highlight the sustainable development of Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation sector, supported by continuous investments and initiatives aligned with Vision 2030.
