Saudi Arabia has awarded a major aviation development contract to a joint venture between Pace and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) for the next phase of expansion at the Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. The appointment marks a significant step in strengthening airport capacity and passenger experience as the Kingdom prepares for growing numbers of pilgrims and international visitors under its wider aviation and infrastructure investment programme.

The Pace–SOM collaboration brings together Pace’s deep regional expertise in Saudi Arabia and SOM’s global track record in delivering complex, large-scale aviation projects. The next phase of development will focus on enhancing operational efficiency, comfort, and processing capability during peak Hajj and Umrah seasons, while preserving the terminal’s iconic architectural identity. The Hajj Terminal remains a critical gateway for seasonal passenger flows, making its continued expansion essential to smooth and safe pilgrimage operations.

The project aligns closely with Saudi Arabia’s broader development priorities in aviation, tourism, and transport infrastructure, reinforcing the Kingdom’s ambition to position itself as a regional aviation hub and a global center for religious tourism. With pilgrimage numbers expected to rise steadily in the coming years, the Hajj Terminal expansion highlights the scale of ongoing airport investment and underscores continued international confidence in Saudi Arabia’s long-term aviation development pipeline.
