The Middle East has emerged as a global leader in air connectivity, with international traffic experiencing a remarkable 33.3% increase in 2023 compared to the previous year. Regional capacity rose by 26%, and the passenger load factor climbed to 80.1%, reflecting growing demand and efficient network planning. The region has now reached nearly 97% of its pre-pandemic traffic levels, underscoring its swift recovery and strong momentum in the aviation sector.
This impressive growth is fueled by major investments in aviation infrastructure and the launch of new national carriers. Notable developments include the opening of Abu Dhabi’s new terminal and the upcoming launch of Riyadh Air, which aims to connect to over 100 destinations by 2030. At the same time, low-cost carriers are playing a vital role, now accounting for nearly 30% of regional capacity.
