Construction of the third runway at King Salman International Airport (KSIA) has officially commenced, marking a major milestone in the airport’s airfield development and long-term growth strategy. Delivered by FCC Construcción SA in partnership with Al-Mabani General Contractors, the project forms a core component of the KSIA Master Plan, enhancing operational readiness to meet rising air traffic demand.
Designed in line with Riyadh’s prevailing wind conditions, the 4,200-metre runway will support safe and efficient aircraft operations while increasing capacity from 65 to 85 aircraft movements per hour. The development includes multiple access taxiways to ensure smooth aircraft flow and improved operational efficiency.
As a flagship national project, KSIA underscores Saudi Arabia’s ambition to position Riyadh as a global aviation hub. Located on the current King Khalid International Airport site, the expanded airport is planned to handle 100 million passengers and over two million tonnes of cargo annually by 2030, strengthening international connectivity and supporting Saudi Vision 2030 objectives.
