Transforming Infrastructure
As part of Kuwait’s long-term aviation development strategy, the General Authority of Civil Aviation is delivering several landmark infrastructure projects that will increase airport capacity, strengthen operational resilience, and support future growth.
New Air Traffic Control Tower
The cornerstone was laid on 23 November 2017, with the tower officially inaugurated on 26 October 2025. The new facility significantly enhances air traffic management capabilities while supporting the continued expansion of Kuwait International Airport.
Landmark infrastructure projects are strengthening operational resilience and preparing Kuwait’s aviation sector for future growth.
Third Runway (15R/33L)
The design and construction of a new runway will increase operational capacity, improve efficiency, and accommodate future air traffic demand.
Eastern Runway (15L/33R)
Comprehensive reconstruction of the existing runway, including associated taxiways, infrastructure, and utilities, is enhancing operational performance while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Middle (Central) Runway Development
The expansion programme includes:
- Construction of the Central Runway, taxiways, and supporting infrastructureÂ
- Installation of a new ground lighting system serving the existing Cargo CityÂ
- Development of the “Forties and Eighties” aprons together with a new VIP apronÂ
- Construction of new airport roads and supporting airport facilities
Kuwait Air Cargo City
Aligned with the 2020 Airport Master Plan, Kuwait Air Cargo City represents a major integrated cargo hub in the northwest section of Kuwait International Airport. The development includes:
- Aircraft parking for up to 66 aircraft of various sizesÂ
- Dedicated facilities for investorsÂ
- Ground handling facilitiesÂ
- Aircraft maintenance and inspection facilitiesÂ
- Government operational buildingsÂ
- Dedicated facilities for the Kuwait Aviation Fuel Company (KAFCO)Â
- A direct road connection linking Cargo City with the new Passenger Terminal (T2)
