Saudi Arabia has achieved a major milestone in the Middle East’s aviation sector with the launch of the region’s first virtual control tower at AlUla International Airport, managed remotely by the Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS). Licensed by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) after meeting all safety and security standards, this innovative step highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to adopting advanced aviation technologies and enhancing AlUla’s position as a global logistics hub while supporting tourism growth in the region.

Operated from the virtual tower center at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, the system uses 360° HD cameras, advanced sensors, and AI-driven data analysis to ensure real-time air traffic monitoring and enhanced safety. The technology improves operational efficiency, ensures smoother traffic flow, and supports sustainability goals by reducing infrastructure and operating costs—marking a significant leap forward in the modernization of Saudi Arabia’s aviation landscape.
