Saudi Arabia is set to transform the aviation landscape in the southwest region as the expansion of Abha International Airport is expected to begin in early 2027. The major development project will increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity to 12 million, supporting the Kingdom’s growing tourism ambitions and strengthening regional connectivity under Vision 2030. Engineering designs are already 90% complete, with the project being developed through a public private partnership model.

The airport expansion is expected to become a key driver of economic growth in the Asir Province, alongside rising investments in hospitality, tourism, and infrastructure. The project also supports the development of nearby destinations such as Soudah Peaks, positioning Aseer as one of Saudi Arabia’s most promising tourism and aviation hubs for the future.
